Its a famous Indian street food which has its own pleasure of eating at streets with friends and colleagues. No worries you can easily make this snack at home with little effort.Although puris are easily available in the market you can also prepare at home and yes homemade is always better as it will be fresh and hygienic.
So let's look at the recipe.
Ingredients for puri:
- Semolina(rava/sooji): one cup
- Maida(all purpose flour): 2 tablespoons
- Baking soda: a pinch of it.
- Salt: to taste
- Oil: for deep frying.
Method:
- Take semolina, maida, salt and baking powder in a big wide bowl and mix well.
- Add little quantities of water and start making dough.

- Keep adding water little by little and make a soft and stiff dough.
- Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 25-30 minutes.
- Now remove the cloth and knead it for a minute to make it smooth.
- Take a small portion of it and make a round ball.
- Roll it using roller the way you make chapattis. Do not make it too thin and also not too thick. Please be careful in this step as it is important for puris to become puffy.
- Cut it into small puris using any cutter or bottle cap as shown below.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame for deep frying. When oil is medium hot, take 5-6 puris and slide them gently in oil ( add it one after another). Press each puri a little with spatula (to puff them up). Deep fry them until crispy and light golden brown. Remove and place them on paper napkin to absorb extra oil. Our puris are ready.
- That was all about making puris. You may find it difficulty for the first time and will become perfect once you practice it.My personal experience wasn't so good for the first time and my puris were not as perfect as they should be.
